This week I'm on the road in San Antonio. What a climate change. It's 80 degrees and perfect riding weather but little time and no bike. I had an hour before dinner so I thought I would find a bike shop and check out the local cycling scene.
I walked from my hotel along the Riverwalk about a half mile to James Bicycles in downtown San Antonio. The place has been in the same location since 1920 and I think the sign may be original.
It was definitely a hole in the wall, nevertheless it had character. There were no more than a dozen bikes for sale in this 400 square foot shop. Some Electra Townies, one or two low-end mtb's, a low-rider, and chopper.
