If you don't already have a hydration pack, and are still using bottles, WHY? Do you like to sip from bottles that get coated in mud, or worse yet, fecal matter? Hydration packs come in every shape, size, and price range, and have so many advantages over bottles (in addition to the cleanliness factor, it is much easier to drink an ride, and you get extra storage). I still wonder why some people are late adopters to the most fundamental technological improvements in life. Enough of this rant, let's get to the product. The Lobo is on the small side (only 70 fluid ounces), but I've never run out of water, even on longer rides at trails like Fountainhead. As far as features go, CamelBak has certainly packed quite a few into the Lobo.
The Lobo also has a stabilizing waist belt and removable sternum strap (I actually like having both straps). The Bungee Cinch Systemâ„¢ is touted by CamelBak, but honestly, I find that the bungees are a bit of a pain. There is a pocket flap holds your overflow cargo, a pump port fits any size mini pump (since I have spare CO2, I've never used this feature either). The main cargo pocket has an internal organizer, and plenty of space for a mini-tool, tire wrenches, spare tube, CO2, wallet, and cell phone with a tiny bit of room to spare (don't forget - you can pack all this, and still have the overflow flap pocket). I was so convinced that a hydration pack was the way to go, I bought mine before I bought my bike, and have not looked back since. I managed to pick mine up at REI for about $39 - well worth it.
Bottom Line: An excellent option for the 1-3 hour ride. If you don't have a hydration pack, what are you waiting for?
