One day my neighbor (an avid cyclist) told me that it was possible to bike from my house in Oak Hill (just south of Reston) to the Potomac River in Great Falls on almost all singletrack trail. I thought he was exaggerating until one day I went biking with him and sure enough we dropped onto a trail from Folkstone Road (just off of West Ox Road). Suddenly we were rushing through groves of ferns on barely used singletrack alongside a stream. It was hard to believe such a thick lush forest was in the middle of densely populated Fairfax County and only occasionally were you reminded of houses around you.
Needless to say I was newly hooked on mountain biking. I had mountain biked regularly while in high school and college, but this was the first time (except for my brother's bachelor party) that I had mountain biked in years. So, I started searching for trail information on the Web. Well, there is a lot of information out there, however, it is scattered all over the place. I became so frustrated that I decided the hours of searching would not go to waste so I created this site so that other mountain bikers in Northern Virginia do not waste time searching and instead spend their time "going clipless."
